SiliconTech’s SAGE-W and ICC organize a series of events under ‘Women Pakhwada’ to create awareness about discrimination against women

SiliconTech’s SAGE-W (Social Awareness and Gender Equality for Women) Cell and ICC (Internal Complaint Committee) organized a series of events under ‘Women Pakhwada’, from 25 November to 10 December 2022. The objective was to create awareness about discrimination against women in society.

The major highlight of this event was an invited talk on ‘Awareness and Sensitisation Program on Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace – 2013 Act’ delivered by Ms. Kasturi Mohapatra, Human Rights Activist and Founder Member & Secretary, Open Learning Systems (OLS) on 10 December 2022. The speaker presented extensively about the act, its implications, importance and explained how to make it accessible to the general population.

A theme based video was compiled on ‘Women Pakhwada’ in which participants were asked to give their opinion on the violence inflicted on women and how that can be stopped. The video was released on 25 November 2022 on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The students and faculty members of the institute openly discussed about the matters which are not spoken about publicly through the platform ‘Breaking the Wall of Silence’ on 28 November. An online slogan writing competition was organized on the topic ‘Innovation for a Gender Equal Future’ on 2 December.

In collaboration with Silicon Theatre Club, a street play on ‘Empowerment of Women’ was organized at the Food Court near Infocity Square on 3 December 2022. A speech competition on the topic ‘Innovation for a Gender Equal Future’ was held on 7 December, in which students from all years expressed their views on how gender equality can be achieved.  The students painted their visions of gender equality in a poster competition on 9 December on the topic ‘Innovation for a Gender Equal Future’.

Students from all years and branches of the B.Tech. Program attended the events and shared their views on issues related to gender equality.
