The SAGE-W team, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), orchestrated a remarkable event named ‘Embracing the Power of Periods: A Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Initiative’ at Mahima Nagar Basti, Bhubaneswar on 22 August 2023. The purpose of this event was to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene.
Our dedicated volunteers gathered women from the community in a communal hall to shed light on the crucial aspects of maintaining menstrual hygiene. The session encompassed a comprehensive range of topics, with an emphasis on vital aspects such as the proper usage of sanitary napkins, meticulous hygiene practices during menstruation, responsible menstrual waste management, combating menstrual taboos, seeking medical advice for concerns such as heavy flow, irregularities, delays, and severe cramps. It was surprising to learn that many attendees were unaware of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana, a government initiative that facilitates affordable access to generic medicines through dedicated Jan Aushadhi stores.
In our pursuit to enhance awareness and empower these women, the team distributed sanitary pads purchased from Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi stores. The poignant moments captured in photographs underscored our collective commitment to breaking the shackles of menstrual taboos and promoting a culture of pristine hygiene. With an unwavering resolve, we champion the cause of ‘Clean Periods, Brighter Futures.’
