The Social Media Cell at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of of Silicon University, organized a short film-making competition ‘Parda Digital’ on 12 April 2025.
The event aimed to foster regional pride by encouraging young filmmakers to explore and present the rich cultural heritage of Odisha. By focusing on themes such as folk festivals, traditional crafts, tribal customs, historic architecture, and local cuisines, the initiative provided a meaningful platform for artistic expression. It sought to revive interest in Odisha’s lesser-known cultural treasures while nurturing creativity and storytelling skills among the participants.
A total of twenty participants formed ten teams, each submitting short films ranging from one to three minutes. The entries vividly captured unique aspects of Odisha’s diverse cultural landscape, reflecting both visual flair and narrative depth.
The films were screened before a panel of faculty members including Mr. Rohit Kar, Dr. Tapas Maji, and Ms. Sweta Mohanty. They provided insightful feedback on storytelling, visual creativity, authenticity, and emotional resonance. An engaging question-and-answer session followed, allowing participants to discuss their creative choices and film-making process with the jury and audience.
The competition concluded with the announcement of winners. Partha Prithwiraj (CSE, 2026) secured first place, while Sarthak Kalia (CSE, 2028) and Shubhranshu Maharana (CSE, 2028) received the second and third prize respectively for their compelling portrayals. The event not only showcased the creative talents of students but also reinforced the importance of preserving and celebrating Odisha’s cultural heritage through innovative storytelling.
