Department of CSE organizes ‘IoT Discovery Camp: Create, Connect, Innovate 2025’

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, collaborated with DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur to organize ‘IoT Discovery Camp: Create, Connect, Innovate 2025’ from 12-17 May 2025.

Designed exclusively for school students, the camp aimed to introduce participants to the exciting field of the Internet of Things (IoT) using Raspberry Pi as the primary learning and experimentation platform.

Over the course of the week-long camp, students were introduced to the foundational concepts of the Internet of Things (IoT), exploring its real-world applications and the integration of core components such as sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers. Through a series of hands-on sessions, they engaged in practical activities, including the development of smart home automation projects and the use of cloud platforms for remote device monitoring and control.

These experiential learning opportunities provided valuable insights into the importance of real-time data processing and smart connectivity in contemporary technology. The program was designed to be interactive, featuring demonstrations, group discussions, and collaborative tasks that promoted critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation.

A key highlight of the camp was the opportunity for students to apply their learning by designing and building their own IoT prototypes. This allowed them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, addressing real-world challenges through creative and functional designs.

The camp concluded with a group project competition, where each team presented their working prototypes and innovative ideas to a panel of faculty members. This final showcase not only demonstrated the students’ technical competence but also reflected their ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and communicate effectively.

The camp was enriched by expert mentorship from the esteemed faculty members of the CSE Department, including Dr. Samaleswari Prasad Nayak and Prof. Surajit Das. Their insightful guidance was instrumental in shaping the participants’ learning experience, fostering both technical growth and intellectual curiosity.

A total of thirty students participated in the camp, each gaining enhanced technical skills, a deeper understanding of IoT systems, and increased confidence to innovate within the realm of emerging technologies. The mentorship not only facilitated practical learning but also encouraged students to explore new possibilities and push the boundaries of their creativity.
