The Publication Cell at SiliconTech, the engineering institute of Silicon University, organized a workshop on ‘Elements of Writing: Editing and Publishing’ on 22 March 2025.
The event aimed to equip participants with essential writing skills, focusing on aspects such as clarity, coherence, and precision in both academic and creative writing. The primary objective of the workshop was to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of structuring research papers, refining written content, and navigating the publication landscape. The session covered important topics such as manuscript preparation, common editorial pitfalls, and strategies to improve readability. Participants were taught how to develop their writing in a more structured, coherent manner, with an emphasis on meeting academic standards and effectively communicating ideas.
The workshop featured expert talks from Dr. Shaswat Panda, Assistant Professor at Dharinadhar University, and Dr. Shikha Vats, Assistant Professor at IIIT Bhubaneswar. The speakers shared their expertise on key principles of effective writing, manuscript structuring, and how to avoid common mistakes in the editorial process. They also discussed the ethical considerations in publishing, providing attendees with valuable insights into the publishing industry’s standards and expectations. After the talks, a hands-on session allowed participants to engage in practical exercises, refining sample texts and understanding formatting guidelines.
The workshop attracted thirty participants and equipped them with valuable skills that would aid in improving their writing and editing skills. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Priyambada Pal, Faculty Coordinator of the Publication Cell.
